Issue #3 of the 2016 The Decorative Painter magazine is in the mail! Over the next few weeks, we’ll introduce you to the artists in the current issue and share the inspiration behind their finished projects.
This week, meet Sue Pedersen!
Sue’s project is titled “Peppermint Fairies”. Meet Sue, in her own words, to learn about her background and how she came about creating her own designs, like this one.
“I would like to introduce my design that is featured in the current issue of The Decorative Painter – Peppermint Fairies.
I love to paint whimsical characters whether it is fairies in the garden or dragons in a dream. This design is Christmas-themed, with Peppermint Fairies loading the candy dish with candy canes, wrapped candies and the ribbon candies that are bright, wonderful and oh so minty.
This project is for all levels of painters and uses Jo Sonja’s Artist Colors. I love Jo Sonja’s paint. When I first started my artistic journey I was an oil painter, but when I started having my children and realized that they were spending much of their time in my painting room with me I didn’t want the toxic environment for my children. This was back in the 70s, so long before the improvements that have been made in the oil community; at that time, there were not a lot of alternatives. I put my paints away until my youngest went to kindergarten, when I stumbled upon a wonderful painting shop where classes were featured. I enrolled, and my first project was a Jo Sonja Christmas box – I got hooked!
After several years of wonderful classes and teachers, I started teaching and recently have started making my own designs. It’s been a wonderful journey, and I hope you enjoy painting my Peppermint Fairies.”
